Lallaguda, a suburb of Secunderabad, was also known as
‘Little England’ almost a century ago as it was home for the huge Anglo-Indian
community lived there. Lying close to Malkajgiri, Lallaguda is covered with
railway quarters. It is divided into south and north Lallaguda by the railway
track dividing it.
A few years back, nearly hundred Anglo-Indian families
lived in the Railway quarters of South Lallaguda along with 10 Parsi families
in one lane. Christmas used to be a carnival in this once quaint suburb, which
would be decorated with lights and stars throughout Christmas and New Year. Now
there are very few Anglo Indians but still there is a lot of love and music in
the streets.
However, now over 60% of them have migrated elsewhere in
the city and other countries such as England and Australia. The boom in real
estate has made this once picturesque suburb into a concrete jungle.
It is completely a Railways area with quarters,
workshops, Railway Hospital, schools, Junior and degree colleges, officers’
club, golf course, function halls, handicrafts training center for women etc.
It's a very good and peaceful residential area with many facilities provided by
the Railways for its employees.
